Map Info:
The cornerstone of the 2Fort series,
this two-team Capture the Flag (CTF) map has a fort or base at each end,
with a "moat" between them, and a bridge to cross the moat. There
are underwater tunnels leading into each fort, so that you can get in there
without being detected by the people outside
The objective of this map series is to grab the enemy flag out of their basement, and return it to the center of the battlement on your fort. Doing so will award everyone on your team 10 frags.
Review:
Unlike traditional CTF TeamFortress
allows the enemy flag to be captured even if your flag has been taken.
This is where the "team" comes in. You must provide a good defense
as well as show a decent offense. The wonderful thing about 2Fort4
is that defending the flag is somewhat easy compared to other maps, because
there is only one hallway leading to the flag. If you can defend
this hallway and provide even a mediocre offense, you can win this map.
This strategy is not however fool proof. It is best used in conjunction
with other defensive players who will serve to wound or cripple players
as they make their way down to the basement. You cannot possible
defend the basement hallways if 2 or 3 players are coming down at once
completely uninjured. 2Fort4's shortcomings come in that it has very
little supply of ammo, and two major respawn areas have no ammo supply
at all. Teams must rely heavily on support classes such as medics
and engineers to provide them with the goodies they need to do battle.
A good medic and engineer hiding behind a heavy weapons guy can prove to
be a formidable obstical.
The balcony is wide open, and a
favorite place for snipers to stand and pick people off coming over the
bridge. The water provides adequate cover, but once you fall in,
the only way out is through the water tunnels.
